Partonomies and Depictions: A Hybrid Approach

چکیده
It is a widely-held view that cognition is based on internal representations of the world, and that reasoning can be seen as manipulation of these representations. Instead of developing and describing a formal model of internal representations and processes of reasoning, we will propose two unifying principles of successful, e cient and cognitively adequate reasoning systems, namely the hybrid representation principle and the granular representation principle (cf. Finke 1989: p. 141 on \unifying principles vs. formal models"). During the last two decades, research on imagery and mental rotation has given overwhelming evidence for analog representations of spatial con gurations, i.e. representations with intrinsic spatial properties (cf. Kosslyn 1980, 1994; Palmer 1978). Such non-propositional representations are induced by both perceptual and linguistic inputs (Habel 1990) and are used successfully in reasoning tasks (see Lindsay 1988). This leads to a principle of hybrid representation and processing, which may be expressed as follows:

Partonomies for interactive explorable 3D-models of anatomy
We introduce a concept to model subtle part-whole-semantics for the use with interactive 3d-models of human anatomy. Similar to experiences with modeling partonomies for physical artifacts like machines or buildings we found one unique part-whole-relation to be insufficient to represent anatomical reality. This claim will be illustrated with anatomical examples. According to the requirements th...

Golestān Palace is the remnant of the historic citadel of Tehran, which dates back to the Safavid period, and the Zandiyeh and Fatḥ-Ali Shah Qajar. But because of extensive repairs by Nasser al-Din Shah in 1905, most of the buildings in this complex are regarded to be from the Nasseri era. Golestān Palace was the residence of the Qajar kings and the country’s administrative heart whose architec...

متن کاملA Hybrid Approach for Fuzzy Just-In-Time Flow Shop Scheduling with Limited Buffers and Deteriorating Jobs
This paper investigates the problem of just-in-time permutation flow shop scheduling with limited buffers and linear job deterioration in an uncertain environment. The fuzzy set theory is applied to describe this situation. A novel mixed-integer nonlinear program is presented to minimize the weighted sum of fuzzy earliness and tardiness penalties. Due to the computational complexities, the prop...
متن کاملA New Hybrid Meta-Heuristics Approach to Solve the Parallel Machine Scheduling Problem Considering Human Resiliency Engineering
This paper proposes a mixed integer programming model to solve a non-identical parallel machine (NIPM) scheduling with sequence-dependent set-up times and human resiliency engineering. The presented mathematical model is formulated to consider human factors including Learning, Teamwork and Awareness. Moreover, processing time of jobs are assumed to be non-deterministic and dependent to their st...
